Erda-fitinib (4mg) is an oral targeted therapy primarily used for treating specific advanced cancers. 

Introduction & Uses

1.     Indication: It is used for adults with advanced or metastatic urothelial carcinoma (bladder cancer) that has progressed despite chemotherapy.

2.     Mechanism: It belongs to a class of drugs called kinase inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of an abnormal protein (FGFR) that signals cancer cells to multiply, thereby slowing the spread of the disease.

How to Take It

·        Frequency: Usually taken once daily at approximately the same time.

·        Administration: Swallow tablets whole; do not split, chew, or crush them.

·        With/Without Food: It can be taken with or without food.

·        Missed Dose: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible on the same day. If you don't remember until the next day, skip it; do not take a double dose.

·        Vomiting: If you vomit after a dose, do not take another one. Simply take your next scheduled dose the following day.

Common Side Effects

·        Most patients experience side effects, which may include:

·        Metabolic: Increased blood phosphate levels (hyperphosphatemia).

·        Mouth/Skin: Mouth sores, dry mouth, changes in taste, dry skin, and nail disorders (nails separating from the bed).

·        General: Fatigue, diarrhea, nausea, hair loss (alopecia), and decreased appetite.

·        Vision: Dry eyes or blurred vision; doctors may recommend using artificial tears every 2 hours while awake

Storage & Temperature

·        Ideal Temperature: Store between 20°C and 25°C (68°F to 77°F).

·        Permitted Range: Temporary exposure (excursions) is generally allowed between 15°C and 30°C (59°F to 86°F).

·        Conditions: Keep the container tightly closed and protect it from moisture and heat.

Targeted Action: It is a kinase inhibitor that blocks fibroblast growth factor receptors (FGFR), slowing or stopping the growth of cancer cells.

Indication: Treatment of adults with locally advanced or metastatic bladder cancer that cannot be removed by surgery.

Side Effects

·       Common: Mouth sores, dry mouth, fatigue, diarrhea, dry skin, nail changes (separation or breakage), and hair loss.

·       Hyperphosphatemia: High blood phosphate levels occur in most patients. Monitoring of phosphate levels is necessary, and dietary adjustments may be advised.

·       Serious (Call your doctor immediately):

·       Vision Problems: Blurred vision, loss of vision, or seeing spots.

·       Severe Skin/Nail Reactions: Painful skin lesions, or nails separating from the bed.

·       Allergic Reactions: Hives, swelling of the face, or difficulty breathing.

Precautions

Eye Exams: Regular eye exams are required during treatment to monitor for side effects.

Diet & Interaction: Avoid grapefruit products and St. John's wort, as they can interfere with the medication.

Pregnancy: It can harm an unborn baby. Both men and women should use effective birth control during treatment and for a period after the final dose.

Lactation: Do not breastfeed during treatment or for a period after the last dose

ONCOBCG 40MG INJECTION belongs to the class of drugs called immunizing agents used to treat bladder cancer and prevent its recurrence after bladder surgery. ONCOBCG 40MG INJECTION is also used as a vaccine to prevent tuberculosis (TB). Bladder cancer begins in the bladder, and the symptoms include painful urination, blood in the urine, frequent or urgent urination, pain in the lower back. Tuberculosis is a highly infectious disease caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It mostly affects the lungs and is transmitted via infected droplets in the air released through sneezes and coughs. 

ONCOBCG 40MG INJECTION contains Bacillus Calmette-Guerin, a strain of bacteria that activates cells in the immune system. Thereby, it destroys cancer cells lining the bladder. Also, it works by stimulating the immune system of the body to produce antibodies against Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria. Thereby, it helps develop immunity and protect the body against tuberculosis. 

ONCOBCG 40MG INJECTION will be administered by a healthcare professional; do not self-administer. In some cases, you may experience pain when urinating, bloody urine, frequent urination, extreme tiredness, fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, muscle pain, or joint pains. Most of these side effects of ONCOBCG 40MG INJECTION do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor. 

If you are allergic to ONCOBCG 40MG INJECTION or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you have shared a needle, had unsafe sex, had a blood transfusion or if you have been a drug user, inform your doctor before taking ONCOBCG 40MG INJECTION. Avoid drinking alcohol with ONCOBCG 40MG INJECTION as it may irritate the bladder.
