IntroductionTafinlar (dabrafenib) is a prescription medicine classified as a kinase inhibitor. It works by blocking the action of an abnormal protein (BRAF V600) within cancer cells that causes them to grow uncontrollably. It is available as hard capsules (50mg and 75mg) and, in some cases, as a tablet for oral suspension (liquid mixture). Treatment must be supervised by an experienced doctor and often involves taking Tafinlar in combination with another drug called trametinib (Mekinist) to increase effectiveness and reduce resistance.

UsesTafinlar is used in adults and some children (1 year and older) to treat specific cancers that have a BRAF V600 gene mutation, as detected by an FDA-approved test.
Specific uses include:Melanoma (a type of skin cancer) that is advanced, has spread to other body parts, or as an adjuvant treatment after surgery to prevent recurrence.Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that has spread to other body parts.Anaplastic thyroid cancer that is advanced and has no other satisfactory treatment options.Certain solid tumors in adults and children (6 years and older) that have progressed and for which there are no other treatment options.Low-grade glioma (a type of brain tumor) in children aged 1 year and older who require systemic therapy.
