Pomcad (Pomalidomide 2mg) Capsule

PRODUCT INTRODUCTION

Pomcad 2mg Capsule is used in the treatment of multiple myeloma and is used in combination with some other medicine (dexamethasone). It works by helping the bone marrow to produce normal blood cells and by killing abnormal cells.

Pomcad 2mg Capsule can be taken with or without food, but better to take it at the same time every day. Your doctor will decide what dose is necessary and how often you need to take it. This will depend on what you are being treated for and may change from time to time. You should take it exactly as your doctor has advised. Taking it in the wrong way or taking too much can cause very serious side effects. It may take several weeks or months for you to see or feel the benefits but do not stop taking it unless your doctor tells you to.

The most common side effects of this medicine include fatigue, fever, bone pain, muscle cramp, and diarrhea. This medicine may reduce the number of blood cells (decrease red blood and white blood cells) in your blood, thereby, increasing the susceptibility to infections. Regular blood tests are required to check your blood cells along with heart, liver, and blood uric acid levels.

Many other medicines can affect, or be affected by, this medicine so let your healthcare team know all medications you are using. This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. The use of effective contraception by both males and females during treatment is important to avoid pregnancy. It makes your skin more sensitive towards sunlight, take caution while stepping out or wear protective clothing.

If you have multiple myeloma, your body is destroying bone faster than it is being replaced. This makes bones weak and painful and more likely to break. Pomcad 2mg Capsule may be prescribed along with other medicines. It is an important part of your treatment and increases the survival rate of people with multiple myeloma. This medicine will kill the abnormal cells and prevent their further growth as well as spread to other parts of the body. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully to get the most benefit. Supplements of calcium and Vitamin D3 are also effective and may be prescribed if you do not have high blood calcium levels.

HOW TO USE POMCAD CAPSULE

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Pomcad 2mg Capsule may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

HOW POMCAD CAPSULE WORKS

Pomcad 2mg Capsule is in a class of medications called immunomodulatory agents. It works by helping the bone marrow to produce normal blood cells and by killing abnormal cells in the bone marrow.

Azacitidine oral is used to treat acute myeloid leukemia in people who are in remission but cannot finish other treatments for this condition.

Azacitidine injection is used to treat certain types of bone marrow cancers and blood cell disorders.

Azacitidine may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Warnings

Both men and women using azacitidine should use effective birth control to prevent pregnancy. Azacitidine can harm an unborn baby if the mother or father is using this medicine.

You should not be treated with azacitidine injection if you are allergic to mannitol, or if you have advanced liver cancer.

Side Effects

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation, tiredness, dizziness, muscle/joint pain, or loss of appetite may occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

People using this medication may have serious side effects. However, you have been prescribed this drug because your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Careful monitoring by your doctor may decrease your risk.

Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: easy bleeding/bruising.

This medication may lower your ability to fight infections. This may make you more likely to get a serious (rarely fatal) infection or make any infection you have worse. Tell your doctor right away if you have any signs of infection (such as sore throat that doesn''t go away, fever, chills, cough).

Azacitidine sometimes causes side effects due to the rapid destruction of cancer cells (tumor lysis syndrome). To lower your risk, your doctor may add a medication and tell you to drink plenty of fluids. Tell your doctor right away if you have symptoms such as: low back/side pain (flank pain), signs of kidney problems (such as painful urination, pink/bloody urine, change in the amount of urine), muscle spasms/weakness.

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
